Work Phases and Flexibility

Students are required to select one of the areas of study that is of interest to them. Due to high demand, students will work for one (1) phase of four (4) weeks each. However, students may apply for Phase I or Phase 2 by submitting a separate application for each phase. Students may also apply for both work phases as this provide more flexibility and better chance for placements. The number of available placements for
both phases will depend on the number of applications received from interested employers in the Public Service/Public Sector.

Eligible students will be required to take an online test after their application is accepted.

The placement of students will depend on employers’ requests and the ranking applicants obtain in the online test following the vetting of all applications.
However, since this is a work exposure scheme, the Students’ Maintenance Grants’ Unit is not obliged to place students according to the area of study they applied for, since this depends on the employers’ requests as well as on the ranking applicants achieved in the online test.
Students who may be required to extend their work phase upon the request of their employer subject to approval from SMGU, will need to have another Jobsplus Engagement and Termination Form filled to cover the additional period of work phase.
