Non-EU Citizens Who Do Not Possess An e-ID Account And Other Special Cases

Stipends and Grants

Students’ Maintenance Grants are provided by the Government of Malta to students furthering their studies on full-time basis in higher education. The Students’ Maintenance Grants’ Scheme operates under a set of regulations and the respective Legal Notices namely the Subsidiary Legislation 605.06 in determining their eligibility.

Top-Up Stipends

MCAST students on apprentice programmes may be eligible for the Top-Up Stipend Rate.  This amount of stipend is credited to students who are effectively working with their sponsor over and above the normal stipend rate.  Students found eligible for these stipend rates receive a pro rata amount of the National Minimum Wage.

Single Parents Benefits

As from January 2017, single parents who are a following their studies on full-time basis at Post-Secondary, Vocational and Tertiary level of education, should apply for Supplementary using the online application. When applying for Supplementary stipends and grants (if applicable), single parents’ students would also be applying automatically for the Single Parents’ Benefit.

MCAST Apprenticeships 2022-2023

Students following an apprenticeship course must join the Apprenticeship Scheme and actively seek to find and retain a sponsor as otherwise they may not be entitled to the Students’ Maintenance Grants.

The Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation has approved the payment of Stipends and Grants disbursed to students following full time studies at the American University of Malta subject to the provisions of Subsidiary Legislation 605.06 including the eligibility criteria.

International Post-Secondary Students from Malta

The Students’ Maintenance Grants’ Unit accepts applications for Stipends and Grants by students from Malta joining International Post-Secondary Education. These applications should be processed through the normal channels, including submission of the online application and due approval by the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation.

Students Under 16

Students under 16 years of age at date of submission of the online application for Stipends and Grants, will be requested to attach a consent form showing the consent of their parents / legal guardians. This consent form is downloadable from here and must be duly signed by one of the parents/guardians and then uploaded to the online application in pdf or jpg format.
